Security

Posted on by 2,510

I am looking for a way to secure a users access to a Vendor Class.  They have purchasing managers that should be able to see Vendors for purchasing supplies but should not see vendors associated with Payroll (garnishments, benefits....)  if all of the vendor have a class and all of the sensitive vendors are in one class how can I restrict the Purchasing managers from seeing the data associated with sensitive vendors.

Field level security seems to only limit access to the field, in this case Vendor Class but no limit access to specific values in the field.

Leslie, do you think a little VBA code would be sufficient here? After the vendor is chosen just check the vendor class and if is not the right class pop up a message and then clear.

This seems like it would be a standard request as i can imagine that other clients would not want a purchasing manager to see all vendor details.  Are there any ISVs you could recommend?

    Hi Brenda,

I think what you are looking for is record level security. Dynamics GP does not provide for record-level security out of the box. You will need a customization to accomplish this. The only recod-level security it comes with is account-level security.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
