GP 10 inventory transfer best practice?

Hi All,

We are having some issues with inventory transfer entry. At the moment, when we need a inventory transfer between our warehouses, people from warehouse A pack the items and send them after they enter and post the transfer in GP, so they know they have sent them. The problem is by posting the transfer, it will update the QTY onhand at warehouse B. But actually, warehouse B havent got the items yet. So we kind of need a "in transit" status for inventory transfers. Is it something can be done in GP 10? What is the best practice of doing a inventory transfer?

Thanks.

GP 10 has the perfect solution for you, it's called an In-transit transfer. This type of inventory transaction solves exactly the problem you describe. It should be listed as a type of inventory transaction. Once you ship inventory items to warehouse B, the items are 'in-transit'. When warehouse B receives the items they will actually book a receivings transaction that will take the items out of the 'in-transit' status and increase warehouse B's inventory.

I'm away from my Dynamics computer right now, but if I bet others will chime in to give you more details. I will also watch this post, so if you have any questions let us know.

    Kind regards,

Transactions > Inventory > In transit Entry

It's basically a 2 step process - create transaction and tell system which site is the 'in transit' site - then you have to go into Transactions > Purchasing > Receiving Transaction Entry - change drop down to "in transit inventory"

Be certain you are on SP2 or higher - MBS did have some issues with SP1 (on this functionality)............

     Good Luck

Thanks, one more question. how could I limit the access for the target warehouse staff?

"then you have to go into Transactions > Purchasing > Receiving Transaction Entry - change drop down to "in transit inventory"" Is it possible to make the target warehouse staff only have "in transit inventory" in the drop down?

And is it possible to also disable the "ship" button for the target warehouse staff?

I looked through GP security settings, but didnt have any luck.

    Thanks,

It would require a customization to limit the drop-down choices but you can hide the Ship button from certain users with Field Level Security.  If you're on the Advanced Management license of GP10, you have FLS, if you're on the Business Essentials license, FLS would be a separate purchase (I think).
