When ever I attempt to restart the Microsoft Dynamics CRM VSS Writer I am seeing the following message in the Event viewer

Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Computer:      v2-pw-prds-fe01.lab.stl.local
Description:
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine RegOpenKeyExW(-2147483646,SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\Diag\Microsoft Dynamics CRM,...).  hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied.
.

Operation:
   Initializing Writer

   Writer Name: Microsoft Dynamics CRM
   Writer Instance ID: {22dfccbe-8b5f-436b-9902-ef1a26d6426a}

CRM seems to be working fine.  I have read that installing DHCP role on the server can cause this error, but this is not installed on this server.

Server environment is Windows 2012 R2 and CRM 2013

    Hello,

    I have the same error on freshly installed CRM 2016.

    I have no solution to this either.

    I saw this on one of the Microsoft CRM 2016 deployments I recently worked on and was able to resolve it by granting the CRM VSS Service account read and write access to the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\Diag\Microsoft Dynamics CRM folder (and making sure that the permissions was set to "This key and subkeys".  After that you need to restart the Microsoft Dynamics CRM VSS Writer and you should no longer see this event ID 8193 event log error.
