Picking pallets with mixed quantity

Scenario:

Item A can be purchased in pallets of 45 and 51 which get booked into bulk location. It also happens that pallet will have different quantity (i.e. 43, 49) due to sample testing or damage. It also has unit conversion set to 1PL = 45 PCS.

SO1:

ItemA Qty: 49

SO2:

ItemA Qty: 53

Is it possible to set location directive to always pick only full pallets from bulk?

SO1 - picks

pallet of 45 from bulk plus 1 from pick location

SO2 - picks

pallet of 51 from bulk plus 2 from pick location

or

pallet of 45 from bulk plus 8 from pick location

Fixed pick locations are used for ItemA.

This works ok as long we've got both pallet sizes in stock, however if let's say we don't have 45s what tends to happen is that system goes for pallet of 51 and splits it leaving 6 in bulk location. The desired behaviour is to  replenish pick location with pallet of 51 first and pick from there.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Lukasz,

So, you would like to do the sales picking from the pick location and not from the bulk ?

You can add a replenishment step to bring the on-hand from the bulk location to pick location while running release to warehouse.

Is this something that could work for you ?

    Thanks,

    Alina

    Hi,

no, this is not the scenario. I need to pick from bulk as much as possible but only if line quantity can be achieved without splitting pallet. So pallet qty needs to be equal or less than line qty. If only available pallet has more pieces than it's needed it should go for pick location instead. Replenishment is separate to this.

    Thanks,

    Lukasz

    Hi Lukasz,

What if you set 2 lines in Location directives

    - 1st to pick from Bulk location with Allow split = No

    - 2nd to pick from Pick location with Allow split = Yes ?

But I think in this case, if the qty is bigger in bulk location it will leave some qty behind. I will think more to see what are the other options.

    Thanks,

    Alina

Allow split only allows to split between multiple locations, which we want for bulk as SO line will most likely be more than one pallet and we don't want for pick locations as we're using single fixed locations.

    Thanks,

    Lukasz

    Hi Lukasz,

I don't think there is a standard solution to achieve this.

    Thanks,

    Alina

After more testing, I've came to same conclusion. Right now looking at customization to resolve this.
