I think I'm not grasping something when it comes to creating products in AX 2012. So I seemingly have the option of using the Product Builder to produce products that use regular dimensions, or I can use the Product Configuration and define Attributes, Constraints, and Components on a product. I also have Product Configuration Models which can derive from those components. It sounds like I sohuld be using the Product Configuration and not the Product Builder because that is being deprecated? I kind of understand all of that.
But then you have the ability to define/run tests. So what does this test? The constraints defined in the Product Configuration Model? Does the end user entering an order ever see this?
So If I'm creating a new sales order, and I add a line, all I have available is item number for choosing what item goes on the line. Is the assumption that the user will just search the actual product information for the correct configuration and then choose that i code? What happens if there are literally thousands of items and variations? What's a good way to simplify the selection of the correct i-code for a made to order product.
I apologize if this is a rather large question. I'm just trying to understand how made to order products are expected to flow through sales in AX 2012.
