Database schemas in Dynamics AX (or Dynamics 365 for Operations)

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have a question regarding the Dynamics AX 7 (or Dynamics 365 fOps) database schemas. I couldn't find any answer to it on the web so far, nor in older posts of this forum...

If you look at the database using e.g. MS SQL server Management Studio, in the business database 'AxDB' you find a couple of schemas: The vast majority belongs to the dbo schema. However, some of the tables that are in dbo are also present in the ax schema -- although it's a very small number compared to those present in dbo.

What is the difference between schema dbo and schema ax (and schema crt). What are the schemas ax and crt for?

Many thanks in advance.

Many thanks! Just to sum up: the regular DB schema is "dbo"; schemas "ax" and "crt" are related to Retail Store and POS. If we don't have an installation for Retail/POS, then we only need to look at the dbo schema. Question is answered.

    Hi dynax-42, Ievgen,

The AX schema is indeed also related to Retail store and POS.

    Hi dynax-42,

CRT stands for Commerce Runtime and is used by POS. As far as I remember, ax schema is part of retails as well, but Im not 100% sure here.
