BOM and versions annoying problem, "BOM for item XXXXX has no been set up"

Hi,

i met a very annoying problem while i was creating the BOM versions.

1. in "Inventory and warehouse management" module->BOM, i create the BOM(PC_BOM) and BOM items.

2. in "Production Information Management" module-> "Released Products" i create a item "1000" which will be used as the BOM version.

3. in "inventory and warehouse management" module-> BOM, add the Item(1000) as the BOM(PC_BOM) version, approve and active both the BOM and versions.

the tricky is when i go the "released products" and locate the item 1000. in the Action Panel "Engineer" -> "BOM" group as below picture.

if i click the "Lines" button, the items in the BOM will be listed, but if i click the "Designer" button, i will get an error message like this "BOM for item 1000 has no been set up".

i definitely add the item 1000 in the BOM versions,

from my point of view, "Designer" and "Lines" just two views for the same thing, why i can get two different result.

i'm using the Dynamics AX 2012 R2 at the moment, it's a new fresh system.

Sounds like a bug.

Have you tried creating the item first, selecting Lines and create a New BOM from there? (Don't click New, but Select "Create"...)

Now i have already fixed this problem by setting up the default "Site" for this item on action panel "Manage inventory -> Defualt order settings", and i set the site for "Purchase Site", "Inventory site" and "Sales site", but i met another problem which also prompt the same message "BOM for item xxxxx has not been set up".

that happened when i go to "Engineer -> Maintain configurations". not both the lines and designer can work properly, but i cannot maintain item configuration for the BOM relevant item.

I have encountered the same issue that you are describing, I have reviewed all of the points that you have outlined and continue to get the "BOM for item xxxxx has not been set up" message.

I have been able to create a configuration through the Sales Order Entry process...creating a configuration on the fly...that afterwards appears in the "Maintain Configurations" form, but unable to create a configuration directly in this form.

Have you made any progress on resolving this issue?

As a follow-up on this issue, Microsoft admits that there is an issue here and has submitted this item in for a hotfix with bug number 1687252. Until then...you will need to make sure the qty is set to 0 in the BOM version.
