Creating Leads for Lead Scoring in Journeys

I am trying to create leads from email activity in my weekly customer journey's that go out to the same group of people (a newsletter).

Right now, I have Segment > Send Email > Email Clicked? > Create a Lead.

Of course, each week, if they click an email they're created as a brand new lead, yes? How do you have it so it just creates a new lead if they aren't already one?

My overall goal is to track Lead Scoring for opens and clicks and creating leads seems to be the only way to do this.

Thanks!

    Hi backinstereo,

As doc said: the create-lead tile creates a new lead for each contact or account that enters the tile. It doesn't try to match any existing leads, so it always creates a new one.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/marketing/customer-journey-tiles-reference#create-lead

Thus this tile shall work for your requirement.

To confirm it, I have created a recurring customer journey, it was set minimum 1 day as recurrence interval.

I'll reply to you tomorrow whether the statement is correct.

    Regards,

    Clofly

That is my concern, the matching of existing leads. I send different emails every week to the same group, so I don't have the option to do the recurring feature. They're different journeys every time.

    Hi backinstereo,

It will create new lead record even if the new lead has same topic as previous records.

You could define alternate keys to Lead entity to prevent duplicate record creation.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customerengagement/on-premises/customize/define-alternate-keys-reference-records

    Hi backinstereo,

    Could it work for you?

I tried adding a workflow to avoid duplicate records, even that didn't work.

Tested with a new email send. Not only did it create another duplicate, that duplicate was tracking the old activity/score points as well as the new one. See highlighted below.

    Hi backinstereo,

What does "to avoid duplicate records" mean?

"Create lead" tile will always create a new lead without matching, it seems that it had created a duplicate lead record with same topic value?

    Regards,

    • Been testing Lead scoring for a few days. Manually created a lead, started scoring the email activity, then stopped. Did some more testing, stopping and re-starting the scoring model, it duplicated the record and then that made it catch up to all the past email activity, even though it was the same email and now a dupe. Very odd.

    • I send emails every week, sometimes to the same list, so if one person clicked it week 1, and became a lead based on my Create a Lead tile in the journey, and then clicks it the next week, I would want their lead scoring to update, not become a brand new lead again. I tried to create a workflow so it would trace the email address and update the score instead of creating a new lead based on this new week of activity and it didn't work.
