Retrieve data from azure db or external db into dynamics 365

Hi community,

What is the process to retrieve data from a database (azure or external) into dynamics 365 fiops ? My need is the following. I would like during the creation of an item, retrieve automaticaly some attributes from a external database.

It is possible, but there are many questions that you need to answer to yourself before you can design the integration.

For example:

Is the external database reachable from the internet (maybe through a reverse proxy)? If not, you can't make a direct connection and you'll need to think about a different solution, such as exporting the data somewhere else.

Wouldn't the perfomance penalty negatively influence record creation?

Is is necessary to make the request every time? Can't you periodically import data about the attributes and read them from F&O DB when needed, or cache the information?

What if the external system is down? Would it prevent creation of items in F&O?

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your answer. The purpose is to retrieve the data from somewhere whenever it is needed. What do you mean by F&O Db ? Does it mean in the same server than F&O ? In this case, can we use x++ select instruction to retrieve the data ?

By F&O DB, I mean the database that F&O uses to store data, such as customers.
