ReportReport

Hi All,

We used to have all our financial report in MR while using Dynamics GP, since we migrated to BC now we are using financial reporting within BC.  The problem we are facing is in MR when we drill down the each row which is using account category it will bring in all the GL which is making up the total (we used 3 segments in GP).  In BC we have account just one and remaining 2 segment of GP we added them as dimensions and we use them for posting all transactions.  The issue what are having is when we drill down the rows of financial report in BC it will just show the GL account but wouldnt have the dimension along with it.  Users would like to view the details same as before, any of you faced this situation please let me know how did you deal the same.

Thanks,
babu

    Hi Babu,

If you check your General Ledger Setup page do you see the Segment dimension set as Global dimension 1 or 2.

And in the financial reports when you drill down it will show you a summarized view but not all the detail. Here is an example.

    1. In my financial report I have the aggregate line for current liabilities:

    2. After clicking on that I get a summarized view with some detail:

    3. If you click on any of those numbers you should get the true detail where you can see my department and division dimensions (general ledger entries):

    Hi Teagen,

Yes thats fine and I will be able to see each transactions if I go find entries but what I am looking for is break of GL with dimensions with it summarised based on dimensions posted into.

    Thanks,
    babu

    Hi Babu,
this one comes up a lot when people move from GP to BC. The drill down opens G/L Entries, and that page just don't show dimension columns by default, but you can personalize it and add Shortcut Dimension 1 and 2 (or the dimension set fields) as columns, then it stays for that user going forward. That gets you visible dimensions without any dev work.
If you want the breakdown by dimension baked into the report itself, not just the drill down, look at Analysis Views tied to your account schedule/financial report, or the Dimensions - Detail report, that one is built exactly for this, breakdown of G/L entries per dimension combination. Are your users looking at this on one specific dimension mostly, or do they need both at once in the same drill down?
Would you like me to also put together a short summary of the Analysis View setup steps, or is the personalize-the-drill-down route enough for now?

Glad to help - follow up if anything is unclear.

Hi, hope the following can give you some hints.
Use dimensions in your financial reports in Dynamics 365 Business Central
    Dimensions - Detail (report)

    Thanks.

    Hello Babu,
This is a known difference from Management Reporter: the standard Business Central financial report drill-down normally takes you to the G/L accounts and entries, but it does not automatically display every dimension as separate “account segments.” Users can open G/L Entries, add the two Global Dimension columns if applicable, and use Dimensions to view all dimensions for each entry; however, for an MR-style breakdown by account plus multiple dimensions, the better standard options are an Analysis View with the required dimensions, the Dimensions – Detail report, or a financial report designed with dimension filters/perspectives. A customization or Power BI report would be needed if users require the exact GP/MR drill-down experience in one screen.
