Category 'Pcs.' on auto charges

Is there anyone that can help with the definition of category 'Pcs.' on auto charges? 
I know that 'Pcs.' is the charge amount will be multiplied by the quantity of items, applicable to auto charges of line level only. Amount = Received Quantity * Order line Pcs value rate.
But to which unit does Pcs relate to? Is that the inventory unit, sales unit,... ?
