Unexpected error

Posted on by 570

Hi,

We just provisioned a new trial environment for CI and wherever I try to add a data source I got this error message:

Unexpected error (Session ID: aed631a9-9316-46b4-8c95-8008dc7a6703)

Any ideas?

Regards

    Hi Aditya,

Thanks a lot, it did fix the issue. It's the first time I run into this issue and actually, there are other team members who were able to create the connector without any issue.

What will be the normal process for fixing this issue without having to create a trial? Do I just need to assign a specific license?

    Hello Bill,

Thanks for the feedback on the CI Trial environment.

We are interested to know where you found CI Trials to be buggy so we can address those issues. Can you please send your observations to CIHelp@microsoft.com so we can look into them?

    Thank you!

    RE: Unexpected error

    Hi Samuel,

    Thanks for the screenshot.

Customer Insights is integrated with Power Platform dataflows (PPDF) and this error indicates that you don't have permissions to create Power Platform dataflows. Whenever you create a new CI instance, we auto provision a Microsoft Dataverse environment as well and default to PPDF as the Power Query based import data mechanism in CI. If you login to the maker portal (https://make.powerapps.com) and try to create a new data flow there, you will get the same error.

With proper CI license you should not run into this issue so I will be curious to understand why are you running this issue? Did you get this issue before or is this the first time you are running into this?

To fix this, please do the following

    1. Go to https://powerapps.com
    2. Select  "Start free" or "Try free" option
    3. In the new tab that opens, complete the required steps.
    4. Go to https://make.powerapps.com > environment picker on the top right corner > select the correct environment CI created with (Customer Insights) suffix > Data tab on the left side navigation > Dataflows > New dataflow. You should be able to create a new data flow here.
    5. Come back to CI and try creating a new data source. You will not run this issue.

I believe you have a CI trial instance and if the tenant or the CI instance is created from an AAD tenant (without proper CI license) we notice this issue.

If you still run into issues, please reach out to us at CIHelp@microsoft.com.

    Thank you!

    Hi Bill,

Thank you for your answer. I'll probably end up doing that if I can't fix it quickly but after the comments of Aditya I'm wondering if it's not security-related.

    RE: Unexpected error

Samuel, I know this probably isn't much help but Trial environments are very buggy. I spin them up a lot and I've run into this quite a bit.  Just now, I went ahead and tried to connect using the exact info you had there (I used Sandbox of a commercial instance).  The UI is slightly different which is normal, but I was able to connect using two different environments.  If you're not that far into this, and if you're getting this error with all of the attempts to create a new connection, my suggestion is either spin a new one up, or wait an hour or so, (unless you already have) - if this was a Prod or Sandbox I'd never suggest something this trivial but having wasted countless hours with trials only to find nothing worked, this I'd personally look to another one.

    Hi Aditya,

Yes it happens when using any connectors in the "Import data". Do you have any documentation on what are the security requirement to use those connectors?

Here's an example with the text/csv.

    RE: Unexpected error

Hello Samuel, are you getting this error whenever you try to create a data source using "Import Data" option ? If so, it could be because of the permissions you may have on that specific environment. We can help you fix the issue however, can you please send an image on where exactly is this issue coming up?

    Thank you!

You could try either of the following:

    1. You could try and reset the environment.  The account listed as "Admin (Owner)" on the Admin -> Permissions page can do this.  Simply click on the environment name in the top right, then click the vertical ellipsis and choose Reset.

    2. You could create a trial with a different user account in your tenant.  We allow up to 10k users to create trials in one tenant.

    3. Like #2 you could delete your environment then create a new one.

    Hi Nicseitz,

Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately, I just tested in incognito mode and with firefox without succes.
