You would need a custom batch job for this.
The batch would run (for example, twice a day), check on-hand inventory against your desired inventory dimensions (like site, warehouse, batch), and if the quantity is below a defined critical threshold, it would generate an alert or notification.
Hope that helps!
Hi,
In D365 Supply Chain Management, alerts work by tracking data field changes — meaning they trigger when a specific field value changes (Insert, Update, Delete), not when it just “falls below a condition” continuously.
For example:
If you set an alert on the Available physical field in On-hand inventory, it will trigger when that field is updated and crosses a new value.
But standard alerts cannot dynamically monitor or compare against the Minimum quantity from Item Coverage settings — because Minimum quantity is a planning parameter, not a real-time field that alerts monitor against.
Summary:
Alerts work based on field changes, not business logic conditions like “Available quantity < Minimum quantity.”
That's why this requirement can't be met out of the box and would need either a batch job, Power Automate flow, or a small customization.
Hope that clarifies the behavior!
