Management Reporter Showing Same Data in Test as in Production

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello:

I have Management Reporter 2012 CU13 running in a production and test environment.

Both of the ManagementReporter databases are on separate SQL instances.  I can tell this because, prior to restoring the .tdbx files from production to test, the reports in test looked different from production.

Now, after restoring the .tdbx files from production to test and running the Management Reporter financials in test, the financials in test are showing the same data as that of production!

How can that be?  When I created MR in test, I did not point it to production SQL.  And, we have not restored GP data into the test environment from production in close to a month.

Thanks!

John

    Hi Matt:

Actually, I got my answer from the GPUG Forum as follows:

If you go into SQL Management Studio and query the content of the table [ControlCompany] from your MR database, you should see the 5th field (GLentityConnectionInformation) which contains the XML connection string to your GP server.. copy the field for one of the company you're using and past it into a notepad

In the 30 something lines from that XML file, you should locate a section like this :

This will tell you what GP server MR is really connected to :-)

Beat Bucher came up with this.

It's true.  The data is production.  When I originally copied over the ManagementReproter database, it must have maintained this pointing to production.

    I'm okay with that.

    Thanks, again, for chiming in!

It sounds like your Management Reporter database is set for the test environment, which would be where your report definitions and any changes would be stored but the data connections are pointing to the production.

If you really wanted to get it figured out, post a screenshot of the config console with the integration selected and I could potentially help.

    Hi There, Matt:

I took a look at all of those spots, and they're pointing to the test environment.  What's weird, though, is that not only is it pulling in production's data, but I have to enter my production "sa" password instead of my test "sa" password in order to access MR in the test environment.

It's okay, I guess.  Again, I can tell that the ManagementReporter database is in the test instance.  When I make changes in production to Management Reporter financials, those changes are not reflected in the test environment.

    It's just a curiosity.  :)

There definitely has to be something pointing to production.  Are you using the legacy or datamart adapter on the test box?

Double-check your connections in the Configuration Console again.  Can yous share a screenshot of your config console and your integrations?

Also, when in the Report Designer, check the connection by going to Tools >> Connection and make sure that is pointing to the test.
