MRP Configuration based on capacity of resources - Reg

Posted on by 57

Dear Experts,

Im facing a challenge in configuring MRP for one of my client.

My client is producing Machining components which consists of several operations. Operations like Cutting, Sizing , Machining etc. These operations are done at Subcontractor and Inhouse also. we have created item codes operation wise. because we need to send this material to subcontractor and we have inspection at the end of each operation. Client wants to understand inventory at each operations.

My client purchases Raw Materials and this raw material is send to Subcontractor A for Cutting and received back. After Inspection accepted quantity is send to Subcontractor B for Sizing operation and Received back. After Inspection it is moved to In House for Drilling purpose.

Now we have output capacity for each operations for example in a day 30 nos can be cut, 20nos can be sized and 12 nos can be drilled.

Suppose my plan for the month is 300nos and when i run MRP, System takes first 10 days for cutting operations and Next 15 days for Sizing operation and next 25 days for Inhouse operation. Ie in total we need 50 days is required for production.

But our client transfers the 30nos of material to subcontracts on second day itself and on third day inhouse operation will be started. thereby entire process will be completed in 27 days.

There is a huge difference in planning. Do let me know how do we configure this requirement in MRP.

Thanks

Manjunath V

i have used the same, but system is not generating separate orders based on capacity.  Its creates one production order for total quantity and delivery date would be after 10 days based on the capacity.

But in my case, next day it will be moved to next process not after 10 days.

in the route operation there are 2 tabs

    1) Resource requirement - to specify the kind of resource using criteria

    2) Resource load - to specify the number of resource and their load for capacity

    Thanks Rahul,

I understand Subcontractor capacity planning is tough to configure, but we need to configure planning for in house production. I have created BOM at each stages for both Inhouse production and Subcon-Bom.

Separate production order for daily capacity of each operation. Do let me know how do we configure the same.

    Thanks in advance

creating a sub BOM for each change of item is recommended.

Your business needs suggest RM's and multiple sub-bom's

Subcontractor capacity planning in MRP is tough due to practical reasons, one could only put up expected / agreed commitment/capacity for subcontractor resources and operations, however this info would always guesstimate

Also when starting production one way to control activities would be to start only select operations and then start next one based on earlier operation feedback
