Can We make a Transfer Journal for Non Stocked Items?

Hi All

I have an urgent requirement. I want to make the Transfer Order for the Non Inventory Items. Can We make a Transfer Journal and Movement Journal for Non Stocked Items? If not, why?

In principle if its not on stock then you have nothing to transfer., nothing to see, nothing to pick, no value, nowhere to post..

So the real question is "whether you can stock a non-stock item?." In principle, the answer is 'no'. Where would the costs and quantity be if not in inventory?.

If its expensed, then as far as the systems is concerned its already gone and has no value.

If not in inventory, then where is it?

Its the same as Fixed assets, they can't be valued also as inventory at the same time., nor can they be used in the same way as inventory - even though it might be useful to do that without converting back to inventory, it would need a new set of code.

However, that raises the question of what do you do with returns, for which the answer might well be send those straight back to the vendor. If they are non inventory, then they cannot logically be managed as inventory.

So, you may need to set up as an inventory i.e. a stocked item and find some other way to manage e.g. control the physical quantity. but maybe expense off the value.

The main propose of non stocked inventory it seems to me is not to run inventory costing against those items because they will never come into inventory and transactions will be settled order by order..

There’s was always a problem in Ax to mix inventory items and service items on a sales order. You can’t post picking lists for service items (and the same applies to non-stocked products in Dynamics AX 2012 terms), so the process of creating a delivery note, or invoice for a mixture of products and service charges (like duties and freight charges) arises. This problem is addressed in Dynamics AX 2012 with the addition of a parameter to the sales order delivery note/packing slip posting form ‘Picked quantity and non stocked products’ ".

Non-stocked items are not tracked in inventory.

For that reason you can't record them in inventory journals, such as the transfer or movement journal.

Why would you like to do that?

Was the item probably classified incorrectly as non-stocked?

No, you can't because movement require inventory transactions and non stocked items does not post to inventory.

Non stocked items are consumed immediately. It is like moving an eaten banana or a hug.

We are trying to track how much inventory vs. non-inventory is transferred between our locations to measure efficiencies of transport method.

So for example we transfer 10,000kg of an inventoried raw material, and some production equipment which is non-inventoried but weighs 1000kg.

Right now there is no way to include that extra weight in reporting, so we go off of freight company invoices. We can track transfer order weight of inventory items over time but the non-inventory transfers are a blind spot.

Another method or workaround to this would be appreciated!

Could you not just have one dummy item. 'Weight', with no value and no inventory , UoM of KG, allow negative physical inventory and then issue what ever you need.
