Dynamics 365 FO/BC and Dynamics 365 CE - interaction

Hi everyone,

my questions - among others- are about the storage location of the data from Dynamics 365 FO and Dynamics 365 BC:
As far as I understand, the data of both ERP solutions are not stored in dataverse so far, in contrast to the CE data, which is stored in dataverse. In both cases, an integration would be necessary to achieve a better interaction.

  • Is this going to change in the future? Is there anything planned?

As far I have read BC is mainly aiming at SMBs, as FO is focusing on enterprise customers.

  • I was wondering which Dynamics ERP fits better with the Dynamics CRM in general? Do you have a recommendation if I not focusing customer size?
  • Do CE and FO have a common code base?

    Hi DynamicFlower87,

    Microsoft is working on bringing Dynamics 365 F&O and Power Platform closer to each other. This is called "convergence" by Microsoft. Microsoft released some posts and talked about this. A summary can be read on the blog from Adria Ariste: Dataverse and Cross-apps capabilities: the future of FnO - ariste.info

    Dataverse was initially called CDS. In the first version, there was a sync between CE and CDS. With CDS v2.0 which is now Dataverse, the CE data lives in this database.

    I'm not aware of BC specific features, but Microsoft heavily invested in a Dual-write story between CE and F&O.

    CE and F&O are built on different platforms, so there is no common code base. However, with the convergence Microsoft aims to improve the collaboration between these applications.

    Do you have any knowledge if FO and BC will be transferred to a common code base resp. how far are they with it?

    As far as I know, this was an annoucement by Microsoft in the last year.

    F&O and BC are different solutions based on different platforms and targeting different type of organizations. I'm not aware of any plans and haven't seen any announcement.
