Running Dynamics In A Colo Facility

Posted on 7 Jun 2012 13:59:28 by 2,485

I've heard that running Dynamics in a Client/Server over a WAN is not a preferred set up.  We currently have our Dynamics in a vmware environment in a hosted Data Center with a 20 mbps fiber connection between the office that uses GP and the Data Center.  We are currently experiencing some lengthy times when it comes to the posting of the PM, GL or Sales batches.

Does anyone have any experience is this type of situation and I'm open for recommendation.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

If your ping is not 8ms or less you will run sub optimally.  You need a TS or Citrix box to host the client in the same COLO.  Usually report printing is the bigger/biggest issue in your configuration.  GP will quite often build a temp table local to print reports (probably it's the posting reports that are really slowing your process) and moving that amount of data over the WAN is a real problem.

Easily solved by adding a TS (figure 20 users per TS) or TS farm in the COLO.
