Microsoft Dynamics SL (Archived)

invalid application server profile id

Posted on by 320

We are trying to implement sending AR invoices electronically via application server in MS Dynamics SL version 7 SP3.  We have installed and configured Application server according to the documentation (i.e. client install of SL 7, client install of Outlook 2003 with CDO) on a test machine.  When we launch application server, we get the following message from Outlook: "The profile name is not valid.  Enter a valid profile name."   If we click OK, the following message window appears:  "Choose Profile" and the only profile name listed is Outlook.  If we click cancel, the following message appears in the application server log:  "Invalid Application Server Profile ID.  Routing will be disabled for this server."   The email profile we are trying to use is my own email profile, which I can access from this machine.  Does anyone know why we are getting these messages?

    Sharon,

At this point, if you've already placed the 08600pp format in the third position in the report control maintenance screen, and made sure that a customized version of the report did not exist in the usr_rpts folder, and the AR statements quick send report still doesn't work properly, I would encourage you to open up a new support case for us to continue troubleshooting.  I think we'd need to set up a streaming session to get things figured out.

I have already run through steps 1 and 2 and the customized report is still blank when emailed (when I click print button from statements screen).  If I click print preview from the statement screen, I see my valid statement document, previewed with the customized version of the 08600 report, which is located in the usr_rpts folder.  The third position of the report control format for 08600 is 08600, not 08600pp.  I've even tried making the report format 08600xx, thinking it needed to be different from the standard form.

You indicated that most users are using a third party tool as a workaround to auto-click the Outlook message.  What do other users do?  Are they actually monitoring the app server machine to answer the message or do they modify outlook security settings?

    Thanks.

Re: invalid application server profile id

    Sharon,

I apologize as I did not see your latest post.  It sounds like you're trying to get the AR Statements report to process through quick send and it's not working properly.  Usually the following helps to clean things up:

    1.  By default quick send is going to use the third format listed for the 08600 report in the SL report control maintenance screen.  Try making sure that the 08600pp format is listed in the third position and that the 08600pp format does not exist in the SL usr_rpts folder.  At that point, try creating a new quick send request for the AR Statements report.  Basically, test to see if the standard format works properly.

    2.  If the standard report format works, but you'd prefer to use a different format, make sure that your format is listed in the third position in the report control maintenance screen.  At that point, run through the following KB article for your custom report format to make sure that it will work with quick send properly:

962985 Customized reports are blank when you send them by using Quick Send in Microsoft Dynamics SL

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../KBDisplay.aspx

After running through the steps in the KB, go ahead and try to run through a new quick send request.

As for the "A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?” message, this is an Outlook security measure, and most users use the following third-party product as a workaround to auto-click the message:

    majorgeeks.com/PTFB_Push_the_Freakin_Button_d4416.html

Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: invalid application server profile id

    Hello Sharon,

Even though you are going to use your email account for the app server instance, the app server instance still needs to know the profile ID.  The profile ID is different from the email account.  The default profile ID that Outlook uses is 'Outlook'.  I imagine this is probably the case for you.  But to be sure, on the machine where you're going to run app server, open up the control panel-->mail-->show profiles and verify what the proifle ID is.  If it is 'Outlook', go ahead and open up the SL Server Administration screen in the application server module, and then select the app server instance that you want to use, and select prooperties.  At that point, populate the 'Email Profile' textbox with Outlook.  Save your changes and restart app server.

Let me know what you find.

    Thanks!

Re: invalid application server profile id

    I need more assistace.

I have been able to get the AR invoice (Invoice/Memo Forms), OM invoice and the Service Call Invoice documents to be e-mailed, but not the AR statement report.  However, the bigger issue I’m having is that Outlook on the application server machine is always warning us that “A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?”

We get this message each time we try to send an invoice electronically and have to answer yes before the invoice is e-mailed.

I have found two articles in knowledge base, one which indicates Outlook security settings need to be modified in order to overcome this issue.  The other article states there maybe an Outlook security patch on the application server machine.  The article does not indicate which outlook security patch.  Do you know what the patch # is so we can verify if we have this patch installed?

If it turns out that we do not have this patch installed, do we then have to modify Outlook security settings in order to get application server to NOT prompt us each time we want to send an invoice electronically?

    Thanks.

    Hello Sharon,

I'm sorry that we have failed to get back to you about this issue.  Has the issue since been resolved or do you need more assistance?

Re: invalid application server profile id

The initial lines logged in the app server window are:

    Initializing Application Server

Fax Services not available.  Fax capability is disabled.

Email requests disabled.  No emailed requests will be processed.

    Application server running.

Number of days worth of Log data exceeded maximum setting, Log is being updated.

Yes, I am able to submit requests.  I submitted the GL Trial Balance report and the AR Invoice/Memo Forms report.  They both submitted successfully.   However, I thought that if I submitted an AR invoice request for a customer setup as a Quick send customer, the document would be emailed, not printed.  Is this correct?

Re: invalid application server profile id

    Sharon,

Another thought... When does outlook prompt you to select a profile?  I would imagine you mean this is set up so that when you launch outlook it prompts for a profile.  If this is the case, that should be OK.  I actaully have mine set up like this too.  When I launch outlook I get prompted to choose a profile.  As long as I log into the profile that I have specified in App Server it works fine.  Are you logging into the profile that you specified in App Server?  Be sure to log into the same one specified and launch App Server.  Send me the initial lines logged in the app server window.

    Thanks,

    Hi Sharon,

When you start application server, what is logged immedately?  Can you post those few lines here?

Also, are you able to submit anything to app server to process?  For instance, if you go to GL and open the Trial Balance report.  Can you go to Actions | Submit to application server and does app server actually pick up the job and run the report?

    Thanks,

Re: invalid application server profile id

Thanks for the response, Carolyn.  We actually did end up doing this that is, specify Outlook as the profile name and did get past the error.  We also ended up making Outlook prompt for a profile to use.  We then were able to actually send an invoice (although it was blank) via email to my personal email account.  However, the issue we are now having is we can't seem to send another invoice via email.  There are no error messages in the application server log.  It’s as if it stopped working.  Does anyone have any ideas as to why it stopped working?
