GP 2013 Bootstrapper Setup Error

Posted on by 210

"An error occurred while installing system components for Microsoft Dynamics

GP 2013 Bootstrapper.  Setup cannot continue until all system components have

not been successfully installed."

When I click the details button I see the following:

Setup has detected that the file 'C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\VSDC0C4.tmp\Watson\dw20shared.msi' has either changed since it was initially published or may be corrupt.

I get this error whether I'm using a client install package I created or using the setup.exe for the disk (in which I copied to the local desktop).

I received this error on another workstation but was able to get around it by copying the GP2013 disk to the local desktop and then running the setup.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

RE: GP 2013 Bootstrapper Setup Error

While I have found the ' install each line ' works for some installations.

I just had to re-fresh my memory on this error and I have to say that after trying to install each of the components one at a time from the REDIST folder, I finally said, crap this and copied the entire folder of the MDGP2015_R2_DVD over from the SERVER share to the workstation My Documents folder.

Clicked installation and POW - as expected the full installation was done in 2 minutes.

While the 'one at a time' may work, this seems to be the far faster and better solution.

I to ran into this, installing GP 2013 SP2 to a terminal server, with the server in Install Mode.  I was trying to install the Media from the E: drive when I got this error.  I moved the media to the Desktop and was able to install without issues. I installed on the SQL server the previous day, with media on that machine's E: drive and did not have any issues.  Same downloaded media used on both machines, same O/S.

I'm having the same problem using the RTM download of GP2013.  I installed the GP10 shared components first, then the 2013 components, and the issue was resolved.  Hokey but it worked for me.

This works great on 64-bit systems, thank you!  However, I get the same error on Windows 7 32-bit.  Do you know the command for 32-bit system?  Changing dw20sharedamd64.msi to dw20shared.msi did not work.

I had this same problem and what BENEFITELECT posted fixed the issue.  Thanks, BENEFITELECT, for posting that.

RE: GP 2013 Bootstrapper Setup Error

I had to open up a support incident for this but the answer from GP support makes me think that I should have the incident credited back to me since it was an installer issue.  My machine is a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit machine, and for some reason the bootstrap installer kept trying to load the 32 bit dw20shared.msi.  The support technician gave me these instructions:

    [BEGIN SUPPORT TECH MESSAGE]

    1.       First, you will need to navigate to the folder where the setup.exe is for GP 2013. I would like you to copy the Watson folder out of the installation media and paste it into the C:\ root directory on the workstation. The Watson folder should contain three different files: dw20shared.msi, dw20sharedamd64.msi, and dw20sharedia64.msi.

    2.       Next, click Start > type in cmd and then right-click on the Command Prompt icon in the search results and then left-clicked on "Run as Administrator".

    3.       In the Command Prompt window, perform a change directory to the Watson folder:

    cd\

    cd C:\Watson

    4.       Next, you will need to execute the following command to install Dr. Watson for a 64-bit workstation.

    msiexec /i dw20sharedamd64.msi APPGUID={91710409-8000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9} /qb+

If this run successfully, you should be able to go back to the setup.exe to finish the bootstrap installation

    [END SUPPORT TECH MESSAGE]

He was right, it worked!   I didn't see an answer from the thread starter, so I thought I'd post my answer here.  This definitely seems like a problem with the installer.

Have you tried installing the these manually by running them individually from their folders? Are you sure you are a local admin? Have you created a Windows Installer log?

RE: GP 2013 Bootstrapper Setup Error

I am getting this same error.  I have tried doing this by running as Administrator, using both an .ISO file from our MSDN installer, also burning it to a DVD and trying that.  I tried REDOWNLOADING the installer, one of our GP people here even got the trial version for me to try to install from and it still gave the same error.  I have also tried copying it to the local desktop and re-running the setup - but for me this didn't work.

Installation media stored locally? Have you tried new install media? Are you logged in as an Admin account? If this is a Terminal Server do you have it in Install Mode?
