Login to CRM 4.0 website fails from Client PC Unauthorized access

Hello,

Installed CRM Dynamics 4.0 running on WIN2K3 Server, SQL SRVR 2K5. When we try to logon to the dynamics server via client pc which is part of domain login screen prompt comes up. Upon  entering same admin usr/pswd combo it fails with a 401 unauthorized access. Access to CRM via IIS on the CRM server however works just fine with the same user cridentials logged in on the machine and does not prompt for cridential login information from that end.

Try adding your crm url to local intranet zone in internet explorer, you should also review dns settings on client pc.

Thanks for the respnse Grzegorz. We have the CRM url http://crmtestsrv1 added to the local intranet zone on the client PC. Running DC on another windows 2k3 machine with DNS set to 160.10.0.1 and configured correctly in IP Properties on the client PC as well but still no luck.

Check crm system event log for any error details.

Are sql and crm on the same server ?

Yes SQL & CRM are on the same server. Reviewed the CRM server log and nothing really stood out apart from the section below.

I tried something else by entering in the login pop "crmmachinename\user" and password and below is the error message received. This user is configured both on the AD and the local CRM machine as well with admin rights and also configured as with Admin and security roles in CRM application.

    You should use DOMAIN\user

Are you sure you are connecting using valid url, by default crm is installed using port 5555

You can also try to setup spn for your crm server, check this

Make sure that the user is granted logon rights within CRM and double check it within AD

I was able to solve the problem. Had to do with kerberos double hop authentication and in following the directions in the article posted by Grzegorz and setting the SPNs it works perfect now!!! Thanks for all the help!!!
