Dear All,

Can anyone suggest if we can  upgrade from AX 2012 R2 CU7 to D365 Finance and Operations latest version.

As per Microsoft suggestion  given below , to upgrade From AX2012 R2 to  D365 Latest version, we first need to first go to Ax2012 R2  latest Accumulative update( CU9).

Is this mandatory for upgrade? or we can still upgrade Data and code from AX2012 R2 CU7 to D365 latest version?

I think it's important to follow this recommendation especially because of data upgrade. The data upgrade scripts from Microsoft are written for latest AX2012 R2 CU9 -> D365FO. So if you have older Ax2012 R2 version, the scripts are not correct.

Yes, it is required first to apply latest CU first before upgrading to D365 as per Microsoft guidelines and it should be followed. Applying CU is not a big effort but ofcourse, it requires testing effort.

    Hello Shreedhara,

I think it might be easier and faster to do a kind of reimplementation.

Do you really want to bring your AX2012 data over to D365FO and are those data high quality data that you can directly use as is in D365FO?

Isn't there a kind of cleansing required for example to get rid of duplicates, etc.

Also, there are so many new things in D365FO that I would not simply try to bring over what was used in the past.

There might be smarter, easier and more efficient ways to do things in D365FO.

This is possibly something you have to assess and decide internally first before trying to go the update path, which will ideally will be the 2 step process you described.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

We upgraded from Ax 2012 RU 7 to D365 successfully in  early 2017. So yes its possible to upgrade from your version . I dont think you have to do any further upgrade in AX 2012.

Given the change in underlying data architecture, I highly recommend either following the course of action laid out by Microsoft or working with a Microsoft partner to migrate your data as if it were a new implementation. There are many things that can go wrong if the data is not properly upgraded from version to version. Especially going from AX 2012 to D365.
