Wave demand replenishment strategy to empty pick location?

Hi,

could anyone assist with the following?

My customer want to replenish items from (higher up) bulk/reserve Locations to (floor level) pick Locations, but because all items are stored on and moved around on pallets, wants to replenish to empty pick locations only.

Item packaging and therefor also pallet content varies widely so, not really feasable to work with (pick) location stocking limits. Therefore for the Inbound Put away the Location Directive Action Strategy  'Empty location with no incoming work' is used, and the Inbound personnel simply palletizes to a fixed height, and all pick and bulk locations are also that same height, plus some margin to pick up the the pallet with a reach truck.

Also, pick location height restrictions aside, replenishment is done much much faster when reach truck drivers only have to drop of pallets, not also reorganize stuff upon encountering remaining items on the the picking location.  Only prerequisite of course is ample empty picking locations...

So really I would like to use the same ' 'Empty location with no incoming work' Strategy for Replenishment Put actions, but sadly can't be selected there...

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

You can expand the query on the Location directive action to include the On-hand table (Locations -> Inventory dimensions -> On-hand inventory). Then you can sort Ascending on Physical Inventory. This will cause locations with the lowest inventory to be selected first.

Unfortunately, it might be that you end up with two replenishments to the same location - I can't think of a way to do the 'with no incoming work' bit.

Hi Guy, many thanks for your suggestion, finally pciking where I left off...

I tried your suggestion, but unfortunately AX gives an error msg 'The specified sequence of Groyp By and Order By fields is not supported' when I try to save the query. I can build the table structure Locations/Inventory Dimensions/ On-hand inventory, then on the Query Sorting Tab I can only select (via pull down) the Locations table, so I had to type in the On-hand inventory table, after which it does show the table fields and I could then select Avaliable physical, but AX refuses to save this setup.  Any further ideas?

    Sorry Remco,

You're right. As far as I can tell, it is only possible to Sort using the On-hand inventory table if the Location directive has a Work type of 'Pick'. I cannot think of another suggestion.

Hi Guy, I am facing the same situation where Loc Dir Put is set to Empty Location with no incoming work and the sorting is based to replenish buffer location to picking location where buffer location has less than full pallet quantity. Now Wave Demand Replenishment is setup and when orders are released to WHS it creates 2 replenishment correctly but both the replenishment have the same Put location which is as per the customer should not be. Is there any workaround for this or is it the std AX way of behaving or we can report the same to MS for bug?

    Hi Mayukh,

That is an ingenious idea, but I'm afraid I never tried it or heard of it to know what I should expect to happen.

    Hi Mayukh Basu Roy,

So for you system is putting two pallets on one location and that is what you don;t want.

Have you done setup for location stocking limits?

Stocking limit for your locations should me 1 PL.

I have used it many times and works well.

    Hi,

My customer want to replenish items from (higher up) bulk/reserve Locations to (floor level) pick Locations, but because all items are stored on and moved around on pallets, wants to replenish to empty pick locations only.

For the above requirement now new feature "Warehouse location status" can also be used to filter empty locations manually in the query.
