Crystal Report Printing Slow

(0) ShareShare

HI GP Experts!

I'm an IT Support Engineer helping one of our end users with GP.. The issue she has is when she prints a crystal report from within GP it takes 10-15 seconds before a print screen comes up...

I have rebooted her pc, I've actually had the owner of our GP server reboot the server.. Still same issue. As she prints 20-30 of these reports a day 10-15 secs waiting for the print screen to come up takes it's toll..

While logged into GP, she navigates to SO Traveler, enters the SO number, then presses print button.. This is where it just sits for 10-15 seconds and then a print sceen comes up that allows printing.

The printer is a network printer that is usually attached to a network print spooler but i have installed the printer locally and bypassed the print spooler server to take that part out of the equation.

Does anyone have any possible thoughts on what could be causing this or what can be looked at?

Has anyone seen this before.

Whatever other information you might need from me please let me know!

Ray

The SO Traveler you are referring to isn't something out of standard GP as far as I'm aware.  Do you know if it's some type of customization or if it's a 3rd party product?  I tried a quick google search but nothing came up.

    Hi Matt

It looks like it's part of crystal reports implement with GP

I could be wrong but in the 8+ years I've been working with GP I've never seen nor heard of a way without a 3rd party or customization to print Crystal Reports directly from a GP window.  I believe Microsoft has even stopped supporting Crystal as of a few versions ago.  I've never heard of this SOP Traveler either which definitely is not standard GP.  Granted, there are definitely aspects of GP I am still not familiar with.

If I am wrong, hopefully someone will chime in and let me know =)

What version of GP are you on?  If you look at your DYNAMICS.set file in your GP program files folder, can you copy and paste the the contents?  I'm curious to see what modules are listed in there.

    Ray,

How does this compare in run time to printing the same standard GP report to screen?

I agree with Matt that this sounds like a 3rd party module. Sharing the contents of your dynamics.set file will likely help us find which one.

    Regards,

    Kirk

Matt - our GP Reports Viewer add-on gives you a way to print Crystal Reports (or SSRS or Excel reports) directly from almost any GP window, including 3rd party or custom Dexterity windows.

AIRAY - is it possible you're using our GP Reports Viewer product? If so, please contacts us directly at support@flex-solutions.com. If not, it would be important to know exactly what you are using to print the Crystal Reports from your system, as that is where you need to start investigating first.

Hi Victoria, although I haven't had the opportunity to work with your Reports Viewer, I am familiar with it and a have worked with a few others that have the same potential.

    Victoria,

Thank you for the response. I don't get involved with our GP server much as you can tell.. I will post a screenshot this morning of the options the user has..

I will found out more about the product this morning from the admin

    Kirk,

Everything else from GP prints fine, very quick without any issue. It is only when printing this SO Traveler out of Crystal Reports that this happens

    Just FYI Everyone,

The SO Traveler is just a link within GP that points back to a rpt file within Crystal Reports. So the SO Traveler was created by our GP Admin and is basically just a hyperlink.. I am going to test some other things today, like accessing that report directly to see if the same thing happens...

That makes more sense now.  The way it was initially described sounded like it was being launched from within a GP window and that window was asking for the parameter and had the print option.  Since it's just using a hyperlink it's probably going to behave similarly if you launch the rpt file directly.
