Activity Based Costing (ABC) for Financial Institutions in AX 2012

Dear All,

I work for a financial institution and we use AX 2009 however we are planning to upgrade to AX 2012.  A question which we have is how possible it is to calculate the ABC for a financial institution using any of the AX 2012 modules.  Currently we have a specific software for ABC but we are considering replacing this software.

Waiting for your replies.

Thanks.

Hi Jonathan, To my knowledge Dynamics AX does ship with a ABC costing functionality. Bits and peaces can be found here and there especially in the Standard Cubes but I would not consider those functionalities as a comprehensive ABC model/functionality. If you plan to replace your specific software you might need to make "some" adjustments to the standard of AX. Hope it helps, Ludwig

As Ludwig mentioned, out of the box Dynamics AX 2012 perhaps won’t have the all features of ABC to accomplish your needs.  It’s possible to create some customizations to fill-in most of the gaps but is depended how the ABS cost flow is structured internally in your company. If you are also considering upgrading the specific ABC Software, you can similarly ponder the cost / benefit of a customization in AX to replace the mentioned software.

Recently I was involved in an implementation ERP (unfortunately not in AX) in a financial services company covering several countries with complex financial products, etc.  It was created several customizations in ERP to arrange data for an ABS Analysis. Due to performance reasons and because sometimes not all the data was available in the ERP, final analysis has performed in external DB.

It´s a standard module named Cost accounting. See this link to more information:
