Timeline/Activity - Which Entity?

Hi all,

I am working on building an integration from a custom website to Dynamics CRM.  One thing I would like to capture and include is information from the landing page they filled out the form on and, after creating the lead, insert this information into the "Timeline" (i.e. Form filled out on _______ page).  However, I cannot find which entity the timeline relates to.  I thought it may be activity or event but I do not see either of these being a valid type.

Could someone point me to the entity on this?  I can figure out the code once I understand what populates this section.

Thanks!

I have the same question (0)

    Hy Partner,

Hope this post finds you well.

Time line is not an entity. It is a control which can be added to the form of an entity. Time line depicts the related activities, notes and posts for that particular entity record.

Data in the time line if we talk about the activities comes from activity pointers. Records in this table is created when you create an activity. So it is not directly exposed for doing Create, Update or delete operation. Activity pointer table is being managed by the platform only.

    Thanks,

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Ankit

    Ankit,

    Thanks for the reply.

To dig in a bit deeper then, if I wanted to store the type of information I said (website, form filled out, etc), it sounds like it would be best to store as a note or some other entity, right?

I did play around with setting it as a note, but it is not appearing in the widget.

    Thanks.

    Hy Brent,

you can create an entity of type activity and store your interaction details in that entity by creating the record after lead  is created. You can have the custom entity relationship with above created activity entity and thus in timeline you can have the records been shown with this custom entity associated to your custom entity record.

    hope this answers your query.

if this helps you please mark my answer verified.

    thanks,

    Hello,

Based on the info you are integrating in CRM, you can save the data whether under the Note entity or into a new Entity.

If you want to be in the note entity, you can set the regarding object of the note to the primary record in CRM.

If you want to be in a new entity, you have to create a relationship between you rprimaary record and the new entity (so the related records will be shown in a sub-grid).

    Good morning all,

I have attempted to create an annotations/note entity, put the regarding as the lead, but it is still not showing up in this grid.  Any thoughts as to why?

    Brent
