Portal Testing

My company is looking at implementing a Dynamics CRM Portal. My understanding is we would need to purchase an additional portal license if we wanted to have a test instance and production instance. Is there any other option other then purchasing another portal license?

We are considering creating a portal that would allow employees to create records within dynamics without having a full license. Does anyone know what the licensing schema is for internal users that use a portal?

Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

If you want to have a portal for both test and production you do need to have another license.

The only other option is to use the Portals Download solution that is available by Microsoft As Is (which can be used for On-Premise and Online), but there is no support by Microsoft for that.

You can get support from a Portal partner if you need. Also, it will not match exactly the Portals solution that you have installed in your Production environment, as this release will not get updates.

The best option is to get the additional portal license.

Regarding having users update internal data using the portal. You can create the users as contacts in crm, and have them login using non-AD accounts. As far as I know, they will not need a license for that, as they are logging in as site guests.

You might not get information in your entities such as who modified these records, but your users will be able to create and make changes to the records via the portal.

    Hope this helps.
