why do we use table reference and reference table?

Hi ,

I am new to ax when i am trying to create a foreign relation by drag and dropping the primary key it is not creating the relation but when i tried giving the table reference it is creating the foreign key .i am very much confused why i am not able to create a foreign key relation just by drag and dropping the primary key in the other table?

can any one explain me what is the main differnce between this two and why i need to put the table reference and reference table?
