Hello,
For any late comers to this post like me, you can actually Kind of do this via workflow. You can use a check condition on a specific entity from the Regarding relationship, then check if a field that is always populated contains data so it will always evaluate as True if the Regarding is pointed at the right entity.
An example would be "Regarding (Contact) > Last Name > Contains Data" will evaluate as True if the Regarding field is looking at a Contact and False in all other scenarios.
So you can check if a record is Regarding a specific entity type, but you don't directly get the value of the entity Regarding is pointing at. You could use a series of conditional branches to break it down into the scenarios you need.
But beyond workflows, you can directly get the Regarding entity type from Flows so that is likely a better option for anyone looking at this post in the future.
