Connecting to RMS HQ installed on a remote server

Hi,

I have two machine (Server1 and Server2) wherein both RMS Headquarters is installed. I'm receiving this error when trying to connect from Server1 to Server2 using Headquarters Administrator installed on Server1 (File > Connect): SQL Server does not exist or access denied. ConnectionOpen (Connect()).

When Testing the Database Connection (File > Configuration) this error is the error: Error #-2147467259 [DBNETLIB] [ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. (Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server) (SQL State: 08001) (Native Error: 17) No help file available.

Server2 is up and all required fields (SQL Server name/IP address, Username, Password) are correct. Out of curiosity just want to check/know if it will connect. Is it possible?

Please forgive me I just new to Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operation/Headquarters.

Thank you,

Koymackoy

You have either wrong database (misspelled), wrong password (misspelled) or wrong IP for server you are trying to connect to. Verify these settings in HQ Admin on the server you are trying to connect from. Should have settings set up to the server you want to connect to on the server you are connectiong from.

Hi Grier! Thank you for your reply.

I typed all the required field correctly, but still the error persisted. Please see the scenarios I tried below.

At Server2: (Connection was successful when using the following)

    SQL Server name: (local)

    Username: sa

    Password: default123

    SQL Database: HQ

    Connection timeout: 20

At Server2: (Connection was successful when using the following)

SQL Server name: HQ (wherein HQ is the name of the server)

    Username: sa

    Password: default123

    SQL Database: HQ

    Connection timeout: 20

At Server2: (Connection was unsuccessful when using the following)

SQL Server name: 192.168.1.130 (this is the IP address of the server)

    Username: sa

    Password: default123

    SQL Database: HQ

    Connection timeout: 20

At Server1: (Connection was unsuccessful when using the following)

SQL Server name: 192.168.1.130 (this is the IP address of the Server2)

    Username: sa

    Password: default123

    SQL Database: HQ

    Connection timeout: 20

    Thank you,

It's not something related to the credential or else you would've got a different error, I think it's something related to whether SQL server is listening for remote connections or not on TCP/IP and named paipes, u need to check the Surface area configuration in SQL 2005 (I don't recall it in SQL 2008)
