People resource dependant work/machine centres

Hi All,

I am having a problem with trying to utilise the MPS function of Business central to replicate my production environment.

We have 25+ work/machine centres for assembly and manufacturing routings that all require an operator to run each station. The issue is that we have 10 operators, for example, so we would be unable to run all work/machine centres at the same so would need the MPS to account for blocking out 15 work/machine centres while the other 10 are occupied, is this possible to implement within Business Central?

Thanks for your help!

Matt

    Matt,

Your Routing would need to be Type = Parallel, and include an Operation for the Machine and an Operation for the Machine Operator.  You can adjust the Next/Previous Operation values to assign which Operations run concurrently (Machine + Operator).  Sequence of Operation is important if the Operator is only required for Setup, rather than full concurrent requirements.

This will get you much closer to your goal, but you still may want to look at some of the scheduling solutions available from Insight Works or Netronics to see if their solution would be beneficial to your operation.

Brilliant, thank you Ben. I have managed to get the Planning worksheet to behave much closer to what we need. We are in the process of implementing Netronics VAPS, using this method schedules correctly under the Operator work centre but still tries to schedule the actual work centres as if they were independent.
    Thanks again for you help!
