Programmatically import users from AD?

I am trying to find a way to programmatically import users into AX from AD.  We've been using the UI to do this but we have a robust application which we use to create Active Directory users and would like to tie in the import user from in AX into this program.

Are there any powershell or API opportunities to do this?  If so, could you point me to the MSDN pages or other blog articles which reference the function calls?

    As I understand you want to create AX users from an external application. There's AFAIK no API available for this but you can reproduce the logic of the AD Import Wizard available in AX and call that logic through a Business Connector from your application. It should not be that hard especially if AX user creation and user group assignment are separate processes in your case. I usually import new users from a file (and automatically bind them to pre-created employees which is important in my case). A job for that with all possible checks, bells and whistles is just about 300 lines of X++ code.

    I have done this using the AD import utility from within Ax. Let me know if you would be interested in this.

    It may not have gone through all the checks, but it did the job.
