General Ledger Detail Trial Balance to Excel

Hello, I have a client that I am moving from Small Business Financials 9.0 to Dynamics GP Version 10. I have perfromed a test upgrade of there data and the customer has come back to me with one main feature that SBF has that GP does not.

My client exports out their GL Trial Balance (General Ledger) to Excel for their Auditors to review. I first showed the client that they could export that report to file saving it as a Comma Delimited file but they did not like the fact that it lost formatting.

My second step was to show them the SSRS Export to Excel. They like this format better but do not like the fact that all data in this report is exported out in a Text format. The SBF report exports out dates and formulas in its spreadsheet.

At this point, I am searching for other alternatives. Can the SSRS General Ledger report be modified to export out formulas? Should I be looking at creating a Trial Balance Report in FRx and exporting it out in formatted Excel?

One last question. In the GP Origianl Reports List there are 7 Reports that start with Excel. Four of these reports are GL Trial Balance Reports. In the window to modify these reports there are specific cell references. What are these reports and is there a way to use them in GP?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

David, I have to say, that is functionality that everyone thought was great in SBF that just never made its way into GP.  A real shame imho.  I would go with the FRx trial balance, but they still may not be able to get 100% of what they had in SBF.  Not sure about your question on the cell references, sorry, don't have SBF installed anywhere anymore, we recently converted our last SBF customer to GP.

Out of curiosity, why not go to GP 2010?  You have to go to GP 9.0 first from SBF anyway, it's just one step to GP 2010 from GP 9.0.

I believe the 'Excel' prefixed reports are used to create the XML data file.

I think FRX produces a nice 'auditor friendly' trial balance. They want a detail tb?

    Victoria and Leslie,

Thanks for the response(s). The reason why we are not going to GP2010 is their version of Office is XP or 2003.  Also when I started this test it was last July and 2010 had just been released.

In researching FRx, I am afraid that the Transaction Level Detail that is needed for a Detailed Trial Balance does not send the formulas out to Excel like the client states is needed. I might have to tell them that they are going to have to have a combination of Either FRx or SRS and a SmartList Dump to Excel.

Leslee can you discuss more the XML data file that you mentioned above.

    Thanks,

    David
