I have implemented two different buttons.
1) Save: Submits the changes on the current record.
2) Submit: Changes the status of the record to "Submitted".
I need to perform both actions on the single button instead of two.
Is there any way to achieve this?

can't you use a simple CRM workflow to change the status to submitted?
another thing you can do is using the Entity Form Metadata.. so once a record is saved you can set another attribute value

I believe you can do this using success call back of first save, when you do save you might wait for return to confirmation of save . For example the GUID will be return when records got created and once you get the GUID call another function for submit.
