Upgrade from GP 8.0 to 2010/2013

Hi All,

We just took on a new client who is currently running GP 8.0.  They have recently purchased keys for both 2010 and 2013 and are hoping to upgrade.

I know that the upgrade path from 8.0 to one of the above requires first upgrading to GP 10.0, but my question is - if they only have keys for 2010/2013, how can we install 10.0?  Is it just the data that needs to be 'converted' to the 10.0 level, or does the entire application need to be installed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi JKatulka,

You client should have access to GP 10.0 keys in Customer Source if they have the GP2010 keys... both should be available under their Account...

The data migration requires you to upgrade the 8.0 installation to 10.0 SP3 (I believe) before being able to upgrade to GP2010 or GP2013...

This means the GP Utilities has to be run after each application setup to proceed with the SQL objects upgrades in the System DB and the Company DB's, plus all the reports & forms dictionary.

Once a version is fully functional within a given version (test with the GP client on the server), you can proceed with the next version...

Of course this goes without saying that you need to backup the entire SQL databases between each step. If your customer runs on SQL 2000 or SQL 2005 for their GP 8.0, I strongly suggest to at least move up to SQL 2008R2 or even better SQL 2012 (but 2008R2 is the minimum requirement for GP2013).

    Good luck,
