Split Commissions what's up with that.

We know it can be done, we think we know where it is done, but it is not working the way we expected.

Situation

Sale for 5,415.00 (before tax)

Two sales people are on the sale and each gets a 5% commission on the Sales Amount

So, this should be a commission of $270.75 each

When we go to the Commission window and enter the first sales person W we complete the screen with 5% commission, 50% of the Sale and then enter the sales amount - this generates the correct amount of commission - $ 270.75

When we try to enter the second sales person A we try to enter the same values - good to the point of entering the Sales Amount - we enter (as above) the 5415.00 and the system tells us that we can not enter a value greater than the total sales amount.  So we enter the 1/2 that - still same message.

We have deleted the Commission screen and recreated a number of times, but end up in the same place.  The order we enter W or A does not matter.

Any suggestions?

    Bill,

In order to split commissions and have them come out the way you intend, based on your example you need to proceed as laid out in the image below.

    Bill -

One other thing to be aware of is if commissions are at all complicated for a GP client, the best way to handle the job I've found is Ethotech's Commission Plan.

So, the only issue with what you have posted, is that it changes the % of the Sales person record and the client would not go for this.

What I had to do was manage the numbers all the way around - % set to 5, dollar value set manually to 1/2 the sales amount and manually enter the 270.75 into each cell in the window.

    Thanks for the entry confirmation.

Babu, the only way I was able to make this work was to manually enter the second amount - this worked ok as it was a 50/50 split.  But you can do the calculations and make the numbers work for you - but unless I missed something you have to do that part manually.

Yes Bill I did this manually by putting the 50% split but nothing happen to the commission amount on the 2nd line.  Even I tried to enter the value $50 and got the above error.  So not sure what I am missing in any other setup.

Have you looked at or changed anything in the DISTRIBUTION window?  I have found that even looking in that window is a no no when you are doing 'strange' things that effect distribution.

When you have the base details entered, do not open the distribution window - but go directly to the Commission window.

If you have tried this a number of times, the distribution may be 'really' messed up - so I would suggest deleting the transaction and starting it over again - by the way, I am assuming we are working in TEST company.

    Hi Bill,

Yes I am doing this on test company.

    1) I have gone directly to commission entry window and changed the 100% to 50% on first line and immediately the commission% changed.  I went to 2nd line and added new sales person and put 50% and commission 10% but commission amount is still zero.

    2) I have checked before and after doing the above the distribution and the commission line amount changed to 50% after the changes happened.

Does anyone seen this, I am on GP 2013 R2.

    Hi All,

Anyone there who have experienced not calculating and showing up the commission on 2nd line on the sales commission entry window.

I am having the same situation with Babu, that the second line just gets $0.00 in commissions no matter what. Anybody was able to find a solution to this?

    Babu?
