default other dimensions based on 1 dimension value

Hello,

We are using multiple financial dimensions and Worker is one of the dimension.

In Human Resources module, we  have set  all  financial dimensions for each employees.

Now, every other places in AX where we use financial dimension i.e. PO, GL, SO etc., we want a feature where user will select worker dimension and other dimensions would default based on that worker's dimension in HR module.

Kindly provide any hint if any one did that before.

    Hi VDY,

This is not a standard feature. You have to consider a customization or have a look at the Data Validation Framework add-on from my company which is able to fulfill this requirement.

I've implement this in one of my previous projects. This feature not readily available out of the box in AX.  This needed extensive customization to identify and populate the logic where ever necessary.

I know that it's going to be complex thing hence I raised the question in this forum. I need a hint to avoid spending time on going through several classes.

    Hi,

Previously for specific dimension combinations I used Dimension sets. Dimension sets can manege any specific dimension combinations what will be as basic dimensions what will be requested for transactions. You can read more about Dimension sets, Dimension combinations in technet.

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa571570.aspx

It's not very easy to set up, but that definitely can manege dimension combinations. If you decide to use dimension sets I can offer some little tricks what I learned while implementing:

    * Symbol " " means that dimension can be left as blank. That is useful when you are creating dimension combination rules. Blank will be need if in one set from three dimensions third ore second dimension is not mandatory.

    * Specify dimension combinations. Does client relay need all possible dimensions in one set. Since system makes each possible combination, then there can be a lot of needless data and that can effect AX speed.
