Do users not use business partners?

Posted on by 125

We are looking for a new POS and I found this forum and I wanted to take a look around to see what type of issues people were running into etc.

Granted I have not read every post but a lot of questions seem to be questions that should quickly get answered by a business partner.

Are people not using business partners?  (do you have to use one with RMS?  Our current POS we had to use one)

Or are they on a pay as you go support type of plan where they would get charged for these questions?

Or are their business partners bad/don't get back to you in a timely manner?

Like I said we don't have RMS and are just looking into it as possibly our next POS system.  In our current system we have a BP with paid support.

Thanks in advance,

Joseph

Be VERY Careful selecting a partner. Though Microsoft basically MAKES you use one Microsoft will not stand behind anything they sold you and will not support you or your product when the relationship goes south.
    • In my case after spending Tens of thousands of dollars for our three stores. We found out that Microsoft claimed that we do not have licenses for the software we already installed even though we have working machines. So they want us to pay for them again.
    • Even though The 'Partner' spent several days on sight in the beginning. We were NEVER told that RMS could NOT do a simple task like process Tips. Never told that reporting was NOT built into HQ, or anything else for that matter. Did not properly setup the initial database, did not ....., well after a year we destroyed it all and I did it myself.
    • The partner could NOT deliver any promised Add-In
    • When I complained to Microsoft NO resolution of Any kind was ever offered. I am Still without Licenses, therefore I cant upgrade.
    • Therefore, Microsoft was a party to ripping me off. Oh and by the way, the partner is still listed as a gold partner on the site.
    •  If you have one store and one lane, POS might be OK in a Merchandise ONLY business model. But there are lest expensive better choices.
    • If you have multiple stores this solution is not for the faint at heart. In addition this is the only product that I am aware of that Microsoft certified developers are NOT given access as part of their subscription. This is the ONLY product where you must SELL it in order to support it. Believe me…. Your salesman/partner is NOT a technician.
    • Also don’t forget.... Microsoft is Scraping RMS in favor of a new product 'AX'. If you are a medium to large organization you will be spending your investment dollars all over again in 2015

    Good morning Joseph,

We are a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for the Microsoft Dynamics RMS software. Each business that purchases Microsoft Dynamics RMS would do so from a Microsoft Certified Partner. Microsoft does offer support directly however we do find most of our clients prefer working with our company for on going support.

I would be more than happy to discuss further with you the Microsoft Dynamics RMS software. Please feel free to email me directly at molliel@retailtechnologyexperts.com.

     Thank you!

what do you mean by this?

(Less RMS these days for new users since the future direction is so murky).

What is going on with RMS that makes the future 'murky'?

    Joseph:

I am a reseller (partner) for RMS and other POS/Inventory Management systems.  (Less RMS these days for new users since the future direction is so murky).  I consider myself a good partner because my experience includes many years of owning and managing retail businesses in addition to my 25 years as a POS systems reseller.

Send me your contact info or give me a call and I will gladly help you evaluate your move to another system.

Partners vs forums: both approaches work.  If you have a good partner they will understand your business, be genuinely interested in helping you optimize your system, and won't kill you with charges.  The forums give you the opportunity to hear other opinions, share common experiences and grow your knowledge.  Win-win.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Do users not use business partners?

     Josephn,

What you will find here is a mixture of users that go from do-it-yourselfers trying to figure out what went wrong or how to set something up, all the way to the I-pay-someone-to-do-everything-for-me set just wanting to see how everyone else does things. I fall somewhere in the middle. I like to do it myself if at all possible, but if I can't figure it out pretty quickly I have no qualms paying for some help.

MS definitely wants users to find a partner to work with. They even add the name of your partner to your profile if you're on maintenance. The problem with partners, at least in my experience, is you don't know what your getting until after you've paid and are on the hook. And there are a lot of bad partners out there doing their brethren a disservice.  Having said that, if you ask users on here for some suggestions on who to go with, you will get some very competent technicians to consider.

The bottom line is if you are competent with computers, speak the language, and have the time, there is a lot about RMS you can do yourself, with some help from your fellow geek on these boards. Especially when it comes to setting up the products, departments, categories, etc. But when it comes down to setting up the hardware and configuring it all, unless you are fairly experienced, or just like to get your hands dirty and have a lot of time, you are better off working with a partner and getting on their support plan(different from MS support which is really for the do-it-yourselfers, and in 10 years I've never really received much  help  from them). You will be much less aggravated, and get back up and running a lot sooner, if you do.

The forums are cheaper than paid support, but as with all free advice: you get what you pay for.
