Controlling Locations available to Sales Order Release and Picking AX 2012.

Hi All,

Just a quick question on how to control reservations placed on item during Sales order release.

AX 2012 CU11, WMS Enabled Warehouse, Reservation Hierarchy (LP/Batch below Location)

The scenario is the following:

1. Sales order has driven demand for production of 100 of Item A.

2. Production is reported as finished which puts 100 of Item A to Location "Prod-Out" and also created work for finished good put away to move that finished good to it's final/picking location "A-01-01".

3. While the Item A has yet to be moved to it's final location, the sales order is released automatically and creates work.

I've tried setting the location directive for Sales order Pick to ignore that location "!Prod-Out", but it seems that just causes the work to be created without a pick location (see below):

This makes a bit of sense to me as reservations are limited to Site/Warehouse before being created as work and then location once the work is created.

BUT, there must be a way to stop this inventory from being available to the sales order until it reaches it's actual picking location right?

Happy to add any further detail required, and thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Simon

    Hi Simon,

You could use inventory status; make the item at a different status from that which the sales order is expecting. You have to change the status of the inventory when it reaches the picking location. It might be possible to do that on the Putaway (have a play with 'Display stock status' on the mobile device menu item), but it's probably easier to configure the 'Inventory status change' periodic job to change the status of inventory in your picking locations and set it to run in batch every 10 minutes or so.

    Hi Guy,

Sorry for the late reply, just circling back to this one.

If inventory status was changed, for example to "Production" so that anything entering the production area was then marked as "Production". What would be the next step in making the sales order reservations and therefore work only find inventory that had status "Available"?

I'm just trying to get a handle on how the reservation engine really works, so that I don't run into this issue in future client setups.

Thanks so much for your help,

    Simon

    Hi Simon,

Somewhere in this thread I wrote about AX decides what Inventory status to use on a Sales or Purchase order (I did not test it on Production orders).

You might try setting the Inventory status on every customer to 'Available'. I'm not sure if you can set the status 'Production' on the BOM/Formula, or whether you'd need to make that the Default Item Status for Inventory (not sure if you're even allowed to do that), or the default Inventory status for the Warehouse/Site/Warehouse module.

Thanks so much Guy! I'll read through and see if I can't get it working!
