GP 2010 R2 Upgrade Path

Posted on by 75,730
I have come across a GP 9 SP2 (9.00.0281) installation that I want to take to GP 2010 R2. In order to maximize success I was thinking of using this upgrade path:
GP 9 SP2(9.00.0281) to GP 9 SP3(9.00.0371) to GP 10 SP5(10.00.1841) to GP 2010 R2(11.00.1935)
Can any of these hops be eliminated? They have no ISV products and no Extender.

Thanks for your help. I had a copy of 9.00.0371 on my server and just downloaded 9.00.0386. There are several hotfixes to SP4 so I will simply use the last one. I will let you know how the upgrade goes.

I misread Richard's original post of SP3 (371) as 317 and then continued misreading.

I have access to PartnerSource but couldn't see your linked article; it gave me a Object moved message.

The client I was working with had 9 SP3 already installed so in my case moving to 10 SP5 and SQL 2008 R2 made sense but depending on the setup other options, such as the later 9 hot fixes, may be better.

    Hi Richard,

I believe the last SP for GP 9.0 is 4, which is build 352 (victoriayudin.com/.../dynamics-gp-version-numbers-and-service-packs), so that will not work.

However, you can go directly to build 375 (or 371) from SP 2, as they are all cumulative.  Here is the link for GP 9.0 service packs and hotfixes that lists both 371 and 375: mbs.microsoft.com/.../MDGP90_Previouspatches.htm.

371 is a hot fix. I bet if I simply apply the last service pack for GP 9 and then go to GP2010 R2 it will work. This is for what test environments exists. I will let you know if this is successful. There was somethingh about the June Hot fix for GP 9 back then that fixed this problem.

Re: GP 2010 R2 Upgrade Path

    Hi Ian,

371 (not 317) is the build needed to go directly to GP 2010.  :-)  That is a little bit past SP 4.  I just checked the notes from the last few upgrades we have done and we have actually been using build 375 of GP 9.0, then going directly to GP 2010 R2 - that has worked with no issues for us.

My link requires access to PartnerSource.  :-(   I do not believe there is an equivalent one for CustomerSource, if someone has it, please let me know.

Re: GP 2010 R2 Upgrade Path

I tried the 9 SP3 to 2010 R2 upgrade and it didn't work. It gave me the error message shown in the blog article and I needed to upgrade to 10 SP5 before then doing a second upgrade to 2010 R2.

Although the DUInstall.log seems to show 9 SP3 being 310 and not 317 for product 0 (Dynamics GP).

    Is 317 a hotfix?

p.s. Victoria, your link didn't work for me

LOL - that was not me.  I think you might be referring to Leslie Vail.

Hard to comment on other people's articles, I don't know where that info was coming from.  Here is where I am looking to find this info: mbs.microsoft.com/.../General.aspx

I take it this article is out of date then?

    www.azurecurve.co.uk/.../microsoft-dynamics-gp-9-sp3-upgrade-path-to-2010-r2

I am going to do a test upgrde first just to be sure.

P.S. Was that you at Convergence during the Mariano and Dave Show(aka Suppport Debugger) wearing the superman outfit handing out Tim Tams?

Re: GP 2010 R2 Upgrade Path

Richard, you can go from GP 9.0 build 371 directly to GP 2010 R2.  No need for the GP 10 step in-between.
