Dynamics CRM 365 Outlook App doesn't want to start

Hey everyone,

I'm trying since a couple of days to bring our Outlook app up and working unfortunatly without any success...

What I have done:

- Setup Dynamics CRM 2016 (Upgraded to 2.2) for IFD with ADFS: This part work's so far. I'm able to connect from external to our crm after I have entred valid credentials. Also the internal part for the Web works great. So basiclly it looks good as long as I'm using a browser to connect to our crm from internal and external.

Now the next step was to enable Dynamics Outlook App. Also the plugin was automatictly rolled out and I see the Icon on my mail client. But now comes the tricky, not working part... As soon as I click on the Dynamics App Icon it starts with Authentication and than moves over to Dynamics 365 Information are being verifyed. And it takes maybe 30 second until I get the message that something went wrong. So for me it looks like the Authentication is already done and somehow it struggles afterwords. I'm spending already ours which googling and trying diffrent solution without any success until now.

I monitored the whole network traffic which appears when I click on the Dynamics App inside outlook.

I see the following stuff:

Somebody has an idea why this isn't working? I also don't any errors on the CRM Server also not in the Trace Log folder or in the eventlog. ADFS Server also has no error logs.

Thanks already for every helpful answer!

best regards

I assume you have added the prerequisite Security Role updates?

Well the details for setting up the options for the CRM can be found here: docs.microsoft.com/.../deploy-dynamics-365-app-for-outlook.We found that we needed to add one of the standard security roles (not one we’d created) but apparently this has been fixed now and you can update your own role with the options apparently (although we’ve not tried this just yet).

hmm I'm actually a normal user mit SystemAdmin rights for testing, so it is not possible that I missed some security settings out in this case unfortunately.

    Hi,

Are you using ADFS 4.0 or ADFS 3.0?

As of today ADFS 3.0 is the highest update supported by Dynamics 365 and 2016 on-premise.  This issue may happen when you use ADFS 4.0.

    Hey Judy,

I'm running ADFS 3.0 on a Windows 2012 R2 server so it should be fully supported so far.

If the app works in a browser, Chrome, , but not in IE or Outlook client you may want to look into adding sites to compatibility mode in IE. I've experienced a similar issue with Dynamics 365 Online and On-Premise Exchange with SSO. Can't remember which sites to add to compatibility mode, but ADFS- or CRM-server could do the trick.

    hey flowjob,

well the Dynamics App for outlook does not work at all. It doesn't matter which browser for example I use if I'm trying to use it over webmail.

CRM homepage works on all browser, it doesn't matter if its IE, firefox, chrome or whatever. Also I have no problem with the CRM homepage itself just with the Dynamics App.

So this problem has nothing todo with browser settings I guess.

Here is the errors I get for examle with Chrome when I try to use the Dynamics App in the Webmail. Everything here is on-premise (ADFS, CRM, Exchange ect.)

    thanks for your answer.

    best regards
