Can you integrate with third party hosted exchange?

I asked Microsoft this question before I subscribed and they said yes. However when I have tried to set up a new server config it says that it wont work and needs to be on the same tenancy. If I want incoming and outgoing emails to sync will I have to move my emails on to office365? Currently they are on microsoft exchange hosted by a third party. Surely dynamics can still sync emails, calendars and activities?

Thanks Andreas, I ended up moving to office365 exchange.

This article has a clear statement on that one:

Connecting Dynamics 365 (online) with Exchange Online in different tenant is not supported.

But if Exchange on same tenant or hosted on a third party machine, then no problems.
