How jobs are posted to external portals like Monster

Hi folks,

I understand that in AX 2012 HR we can post the job advertisement to external portals like LinkedIn or Monster. Can anyone explain me in detail the out of the box functionality and technicality in detail ? What i am interested to know is how is the connectivity set up between customer's AX system and external job portal system  - some interface, some file upload?? Till now i only see job posting in the company's portal.

Thanks

Soma

It's been many weeks that I posted this question but with no response. Not sure why though. I decided to suggest possible solutions here in the forum and if there's anyone who would like to add on top of this please do so. Possible options too push job advertisement through external channels are  :

    1. Recruiter who has access can upload HTML file on the service provider's website(space) directly. I implemented e-Recruiting(SAP) for a client and they adopted this solution.

    2. Recruiter passes on the job advertisement file to the service provider who posts on the website.

    3. Set up interface with the service provider's system. Expensive and complicated solution and not recommended.

I did this last year for a client and it turned out very slick, here is what I did; I used the JobAppService, which allows you to actually apply for the job in AX and also I used the JobPostingService to pull back a list of the open jobs. . Take a look at the aif stuff for this as a starting point.

Then I created a website and made nice list grid with all the open jobs on it by calling JobPostingservice, I made a details page with more info about the job and then I also made a job application page where the candidate enters his information and such. This job application page called the AX job service and the candidates show up in the AX Recruiters box where they can approve them, then they show up in the HR lists.

Monster and Indeed offer a service (for free) whereby they screen scrape your internal job postings if you like, perfect...only getting my website to allow traffic outside the DMZ was a little tricky, but its just a traditional external website and good AX/IIS security methods around your query and service end points (advanced inbound port, and you have to configure them for your security methods chosen, such as certificate, etc..). You can setup security in your inbound ports as well as in your webservice calls so that security roles that are setup in AX are used for the application as well.

call AX jobpostingservice for a list of the jobs, then call the jobservice for submitting an application.

When the user clicked on APPLY in monster and indeed they actually came to my job application page, which fed right into AX....that was a setting within monster/indeed I think that allowed me to point it to my application page.

    hope that helps

Sorry, you did say out of the box and my reply was not out of the box. EP has a section for internal and external job postings whereby internal users can apply for jobs that are listed in AX, and external users could also apply. If you were to expose this sharepoint page externally then monster / indeed would be able to screenscrape the page and you would see your AX advertisements/postings on the job boards.

My client wanted more functionality than the EP site had so i just created my own web app, it was actually much easier anyway since i was then able to just use C# and get many more fields and adjust the layout. Plus exposing EP to external traffic is whole different nut to crack, i found it quicker and easier to bake my own web app for this.

i would be glad to share my web application with you if you are interested

Yes, we did here same way to When recruitment project / job is saved in appropriate table, Data Is integrated to external website to display on custom c# website. It is more better, quicker and saver then expose Sharepoint portal to external world.

That was a very well described solution, Brian! If not with my current project, am sure I would refer to your solution some day. Thanks !
