Standard Cost Activation for Planning Item

For a planning item, while setting up the formula, co-products are setup and cost allocation percentage is setup across all co-products. Total is 100%. Route is also setup for the planning item and when I calculate the cost – it apportions the cost correctly across all co-products as per the cost allocation % and allows me to activate the cost of the individual co-products. However, there is no option to activate the cost of planning item. It is greyed out. is this correct/expected? Does system not allow to activate cost of the planning item – technically that item is never produced/will have no cost. However, I just want to make sure that it is correct.
