Contract Lines not available as Sub-Grid

Hi,

I have created a new entity called "Machine"

I added an N:1 Relationship from "Contract Line" to Machine. So I have a lookup field "Machine" in the "Contract Line" entity.

Now I want to add a Sub-Grid on Machine Form to show all "Contract Line". Contract Line is not available as Entity Data Source.

Where is the problem ?

Almost the same problem, but I cannot add the Contract Line subgrid to the Contract entity (I know it was there with the out-of-the-box solution) but I deleted it and now need it back. Sam as Donny where Contract Lines is not an available subgrid entity (so Donny, I don't think it's related to your new entity setup).

    Hi Donny,

You can't add "Contract Line" as a subgrid on Machine or any other entity. There is unsupported way to do this.

    Please follow below steps :-

    Open the OrgName_MSCRM database

    Run the following query

    update metadataschema.entity

    set  IsChildEntity=0

    where name=‘contractdetail’

This will let us add the sub grid for the contract line entity.

for more details you can refer :-

This is not an option. Because then you cannot do it on CRM Online.

Are there any reasonable reason for this problem ?

    Donny

This is because of the childentity flag I think that lock it.

You can only see from the associated view or display the associated view as iframe

    With this url

    Thanks

    Hi Aileen,

yes technically I understand why is it not possible to show the subgrid, but my question was actually more from business side point of view, why is it not possible ?

    Hi Donny,

I have no idea in term of business process, of course this is no addition.

But, again CRM design, not all things are open for customization.

Example is not only contract line, like price list item view you event cant customize it.

Some entities that not be able to customize I have suggested to MS, probably the same suggestion I can give to you to suggest MS also here, it is not the solution you looking for though :)

    Hi Aileen,

I understand the answer to Donny's question. However, do you have an answer for mine? I deleted the default Contract Lines subgrid from Contracts form but now need to put it back. How can I achieve this?

    Amit,

We tried your suggestion and it worked, however, now we are getting errors when trying to connect a case to a contract line.  I am guessing the issue is related to the unsupported change.  Do you know what the original setting should be for the IsChildEntity flag so we can revert it back to the way it was?  I am guessing it should be 1 but I wanted to be sure.

    Thanks
