Dynamics GP Version 9 on 64 Bit Windows 7 Machine

Posted on by 1,817

Hello,

I have a client trying to install Dynamics GP Version 9 on a Windows 7 64 Bit machine. I have been able to successfully install GP 9 on Windows 7 32 Bit before. I had to install the Dot Net 1.1 to be able to install the Service Pack.

Does anyone have this running in this configuration?

Any Help will be appreciated.

David

    Steps:

    1. Install regular GP client from CD9 share on server01 or from actual CD

    2. Run ODBCad32 from the Windows\sysWOW64 folder to setup the DSN.

    3. Download and install .NET 1.1 and Install – download .NET 1.1 sp1 and install, reboot

    4. Run GP SP4.msp file as Administrator (right click on it and select Run as. May have to copy the msp to local drive and run from a command prompt that has been Run as admin)

    5. Run GP for the first time as Administrator to add additional code, it will run the Utilities the first time

We have a number of customers that are successfully using GP 9.0 on Windows 7 64-bit.

I typically recommend installing outside of Program Files to avoid issues like the one Dennis details and installing as the local administrator to avoid any permissions issues.

The installer will error when you reach to the point where you need to give the install path.

Since GP9 is not a 64bit app it will default to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP9

    Change the path to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP9.

You will also have to change the path for your ODBC Setup

In the Control Panel Administrative Tools duplicate the ODBC icon,

Right Click on the new icon and Choose Propertities.

Change the target to : C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

You will be able to create the ODBC connection now.

I have been able to run GP9 on Windows 7 64bit with out any issues.

    Hope this helps.

    David,

Check out David Musgrave's blog post on this topic. If you have already successfully installed v.9 on a Win7 32-bit machine, the key difference in the procedure seems to be first installing Microsoft Dynamics GP v9.0 from the CD to get the 32-bit .Net Framework 1.1 installed. Then you can install the .Net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1, and proceed to the GP service pack.

As a reminder to other readers, this is not a supported configuration, but GP's core functionality should run.
