Image link or internal doc attach?

company has image link and all invoices are scanned and attached with Image link software.  (I'm told that if it's an Excel spreadsheet, it needs to be converted to 97 before attaching)

We have GP 2016 and doc attachment function is not enabled.

Is there an advantage/disadvantage to using Image Link?  (besides paying for something that we really get for free)

Would this have any affect on workflow when I activate that?

I don't know the Image Link software, but the GP document attach puts the document into the GP SQL database, if you have any volume of transactions, this will increase the size of your SQL database, which is not a problem, but means having to have the right hardware for storing and backing up a much bigger database.

You might already have this issue if that software goes to the DB too.
