Can/Should Inactive records be updated via Data Import Wizard?

Is it bad practice to update Inactive records on our custom entities via an excel export-then-import using the Import Wizard?

Or do these records need to be activated before being updated?

There are no workflows or other processes that need to run after/during these record updates.

[Dynamics 365 OP 8.2.3.8]

Thanks,

Jake

RE: Can/Should Inactive records be updated via Data Import Wizard?

    Hi JustJake,

There is no need to active records before importing them.

Through my test, I export them to edit and import them again directly, which can update inactive records successfully.

Also, you can try to use Bulk Data Updater tool to update inactive records in XrmToolBox, which maybe one better way.

(1)Load one entity you need and select one view.

(2)Update fields with value you need.

    Note:

    (1) Download XRM ToolBox. https://www.xrmtoolbox.com/

    (2) Once you have downloaded and installed it, then connect to you crm environment.

Insert organization url and passward, you can connect successfully.

Or using SDK Login Control and next Office 365 sign-in.

    (3) Go library to install Bulk Data Updater.
