Deleting OOTB Web Role "Administrators"

Posted on by 650

Hi,

I have deleted the OOTB Web Role "Administrators".
This action breaks the Portal alltogether, i.e. the Portal is no langer accessible.
Did you observe such behaviour as well?

Best regards.

    Hi Tino,

What did you do to fix it?

I'd like to know if a full restore is necessary, or just an export/import (or record creation).

    Thanks in advance.

I will have to disagree, because the OOTB Administrator role is nothing but a Web Role record, which holds the administrative Website Access Permission.

Hence, every Web Role can be shaped like that.

I would even assume that a Portal can operate w/o any Adminstrator role, because I do not see any necessity for such role for the standard mode of operation.

So, if there was such deep integration and necessity, I would:

    a) expect MSFT to state out this necessity in the standard documentation - i.e. that this role shall never be deleted

    b) prevent the user to delete the OOTB Administrator role.

Didn't try. But I assume it's pretty obvious it would break.

I have heard so but I never tried myself. :)

    Hi Priyesh,

I was able tof fix it.

Just wanted to confirm by someone else, that the deletion actually breaks something in the Portal.

    Hi Tino,

I didn't try to delete this record.

But I suggest you should create/import this record from elsewhere, like from a trial portal to restore it back.

    Hope this helps.
