Upgrade customizations CRM 4.0 to CRM 2016

Hi all,

We need to a upgrade some customizations (Plugins and scripts) from CRM 4.0 to CRM 2016.

Just some examples of customizations:

  • Auto fill in fields
  • Format fields
  • Copy data from parent entity

Are there any guides, best practices, tools etc to do this.

    Hi,

    There was a "2011-ify your CRM 4-js" tool that made some general changes but you had to go through the code manually afterwards so I'd say it's better to do it manually. That way you can also re-think some steps that could be done in a better way aswell.

    For the plugin part there are no quick fix so it's start from scratch that's the way to do it unfortunately.

    As for guides, read the example code in the SDK and read blogs to get ideas of how you do things is my best tip.

    Hi,

    First of all upgrade is not straight. It will be a lengthy process for you since it is from 4.0 to 2016.

    The upgrade path will be like below.

    -> CRM 4.0 to CRM 2011

    -> CRM 2011 to CRM 2013 SP1 or later

    -> CRM 2013 SP1 or later to CRM 2015

    -> CRM 2015 to CRM 2016.

    In your case you have to analyse you javascript first and you can re write it to CRM 2016 compatible.

    Also, you have to do check for your plugin codes as well.

    I would recommend you have to understand your plugins and do it for CRM 2016 compatible.

    @Mansoor, we don't upgrade CRM itself. We only migrate customizations to new CRM 2016 system.
